Useful materials can become waste when their next use is nobody’s responsibility. Otto Loop is a working proposal for connecting procurement, product life, repair and recovery within a place and beyond it.
Record what an object contains, how it can be repaired and where it goes when its first use ends. Give reusable components and repairable products a place in purchasing decisions.
Separate material streams and verify the process each can safely enter. Managed composting, reuse and recycling have different limits. Hazardous or unsuitable materials need appropriate external handling; a circular diagram does not make those losses disappear.
Loop works with Food on suitable organics, Water on separate reuse systems, Fabrication on recoverable parts and Logistics on authorised external routes. Steward records the daily responsibilities and actual results.
